For days last week Y was trying to get me to give him ideas for a mother’s day present. The closest I could get was a possible manicure. Maybe. In the end, what I got was a book I liked the look of from the church bookshop. Good because it was something I probably would’ve bought anyway.
But, the best thing was the present TB gave me (albeit under force – he wanted to keep it for himself) that evening. He made a plate with shiny sticky stars on while he was at nursery. It was so cute and definately a step up from his drawings. I think I might have to go and get him a sticker book so I can encourage this artwork.

As I was passing Blackwells (the book store), I noticed a display in the window: “The Big Gay Read”. No problems there. What got to me was the inclusion of Jeffrey Eugenidies’ “Middlesex”. It made me want to go into the store and ask what the hell that book was doing there?
For those of you who have read the book, you know what I mean. For those you who haven’t, I urge you to get hold of a copy as it is an amazing book.

Fix Car!!!
That’s the newest ready made phrase that TB has come up with… lol!
He broke another one of his car (actually it was my nice Chrismas Prezzie Mini Remote Car but hey… if TB say “TB’s” so it it TB’s… lol) and then he came to me saying “Daddy, Fix Car”. Lol… I have to give it to you… Vic might be right when she said that the boy is getting a lot smarter since he’s been staying with Daddy at home…
And I am happy with that.
Only not very when I can’t really work during the day cuz of it… but hey…
The fact is that he is really starting to formulate propper phrases and putt them to test.
So cute.

TB had a huge day yesterday. We started off by taking him to get his hair cut (whilst Y was taking photos for the salon’s website). We tried to sit him on the chair on his own but he was having none of it so I ended up having to sit him on my lap, at which point he decided to be as good as a boy can be when he doesn’t particularly want to be messed. It took some effort but the guy cutting his hair was good, and now he has short hair (which was spiked with gel yesterday) that looks so much better than the uncut mop he was sporting beforehand. With any luck this cut will last for another six months so we can avoid the whole episode for as long as possible.
Then we took him off to Baby Praise. From previous experience we know that he’s better there when we’re not with him so we tend to leave him with one of the leaders. We went off for a coffee and when we got back we snuck in the back of the room and watched him (without him realising we were there). We went up to him when they asked for all the families to get together and he started hugging us both and wouldn’t let the three of us separate.
We had lunch in Subway. I like it coz as long as you don’t go overboard, it’s relatively low in points. TB liked his little kiddies roll. I thought he could be adventurous and let him have salad in it. He took the ham out and ate that first. Then he picked at the salad and ate a bit of bread with cheese on it. Before we left I tried to get him to have some of the last bits of bread which he refused – there was nothing left on them. He was quite impressed with his megablocks palm tree toy that he got with his meal – much better than the things McDonalds and Burger King usually give away. He also decided that he wanted to have his drink in a proper cup like Y and I. He had to have a lid and a straw with his drink.
We were going to go to the park but it was so cold we headed across to Oxford Street to get us all some gloves (seeing as we cleverly left all of ours at home). We also managed to get some birthday presents for TB – some more books and the Incredibles DVD. Yes, we’re bad parents, we let him watch TV if he wants.
Whilst Y and I were at the Praise Party TB went to nursery. He was quite happy to run around and ignore us. By the time we’d registered him he was happily sitting in a police car (much more fun than one of the regular cars) and we thought we’d make a quick exit before he realised we were going. No such luck. He saw us start to leave and said “bye bye” and waved to us. Finally it seems that we’re starting to make progress from the regular screaming and clinging until he realises it’s all ok. When Y picked him up he had a lollipop of wisdom which he’d found in a game. Unfortunately when you start to eat the lollipop of wisdom it becomes very sticky and sticky hands are yuk yuk. Needless to say, the sticky lollipop of wisdom went in the bin when he wasn’t looking.
And, the icing on the cake: he slept until nearly 10 this morning!

A really good Praise Party this Saturday, and two things of note for me: firstly that I signed up for a conference without thinking, even though I knew it’s on the same weekend as my company’s annual ball. Does it bother me that as far as work life is concerned this is the event of the year? No. I’d rather be at the conference. I think I surprised Y a little with that one.
Secondly, both of us auditioned to sing in the band. I’ll let Y give you his feelings on his attempt, but as for me, I am seriously unimpressed with myself. It’s not so much a case of whether or not I get in, ‘m more kicking myself because it was so appauling that if I don’t get in, it’s all my fault for not being good enough, especially when I know that I more than am. So, we’ll see. . .
