Friday night was TB’s school disco. In case you hadn’t noticed, I have boys. I never expected to have to deal with dilemmas over what my child would wear on a night out.

You see, TB wanted to wear a shirt and tie. Not a problem, as you can see. But he wanted a long sleeved shirt, and it needed to be white. There was a certain look he wanted to pull off: the Michael Jackson. There were very nearly tears before bedtime. Next term I think I’m going to have to take the boy shopping for disco clothes.

Being a Friday, the boys’ dad was around and of course was accompanied by his camera. TB insisted that he get some photos, and just to be the height of cool he had to wear his new glasses. Not that you’d guess it from the photos but these glasses are special. The inside of the lenses are mirrored so TB can see exactly what’s going on behind him. Or just wear them around the house because he thinks he looks cool.

Not being one to be outdone by his brother, Li’l Mister also wanted a pair of glasses. He even made the effort to learn the word so he could beg for a pair. I took pity on him and found my spare and slightly broken sunglasses. This pic must have been taken one one of the few moments that the glasses actually sat on his nose. They were too big to sit on his head and kept sliding from his nose. Still, they made him happy.

Yep, I have two party monsters in the house.

I was off work ill all of last week so this weekend had to be about the simple things – I wasn’t sure if I was even up to the walk across to the park. We spent the mornings in our PJs, played with Lego and read books. On Saturday we wrapped up and ventured outside, not even as far as the end of our road. The boys took their scooters out and Li’l Mister spent his time trying to copy his big brother. I dread the moment he starts trying to do tricks!

On Monday Li’l Mister turned two. We had a party on Sunday. In reality we did what we always do: go to mum’s for tea, the only difference being we had tea and cake (courtesy of Beth – have you guessed what it is yet?).

Li’l Mister was of course impressed with the unwrapping of the presents, as was TB who took it into his head to help. Probably a good thing as I wrapped everything when I was doing the Christmas presents. All the prezzies were covered in sellotape in an attempt to foil any small child rummaging under the Christmas tree. Still it made for fun unwrapping.

When TB turned one I bought him a potty. One of the first things he did with it was put it on his head. Being a year older, I had high hopes for Li’l Mister and his first potty. His childminder is potty training one of the other kids so he should be well aware of what a potty is. I was right, he got the word right. Unfortunately, one of the first things he did with it was put it on TB’s head. Why do I get the feeling there’s going to be trouble when this kid actually starts potty training.

There was an eerie feel to the village this morning. The wind howled through the trees and rushed over the rooftops. The streets were strewn with litter; beer cans, milk bottles and egg cartons all spewed from upturned wheelie bins. As we drove through the Square there were too few cars on the roads. The street lights flickered above us like they were warning us to get out. As we left the Square those flickering street lights faded, the power trickling from them, plunging us into darkness.

It wasn’t the end of the world, just a little wind. But see what happens when you let your imagination run away with you?

Li’l Mister and the Christmas Present Giggles

One of Li’l Mister’s Christmas presents was a steering wheel. It’s quite a nifty little thing with a car that sits on a viewscreen and drives along (or off) the road as you turn the wheel. Naturally Li’l Mister decided its intended usage wasn’t quite what he was after and opted to do this instead.
