I’m used to back pain, I get it a lot in my upper back. Sitting at a computer all day doesn’t tend to help but I’ve gotten good at ignoring it. Nothing short of a ten cup reduction will solve the problem and that’s probably not going to happen in the near future. I got used to back pain when I was pregnant as well. From the early weeks I suffered but learnt how to manage it and got on with life. Those two issues aside I used to think I had a pretty strong back. Until Sunday.
Sunday I woke up and oh! The pain! My lower back was killing. I hadn’t remembered pulling anything out of place so could only assume it was hefting Little Mister around at Cybermummy that had strained it.
Monday came and I hefted on my rucksack (I wasn’t stupid enough to carry my pump in a shoulder bag any more) and was so unhappy after the five minute walk to the station that I turned around and came home. The idea of the two hour commute was too much for my poor back to bear. I went to the doctors instead. One tube of ibuprofen gel (I can’t take anything stronger whilst I’m breastfeeding) and advice to try and avoid making it any worse and I was still no better off than I had been that morning.
Tuesday came and went, then Wednesday. Still no better. This morning I woke up and it seemed a little worse. Doctors again. No sign of a slipped disc or other such problem. No, the explanation for my problem, it seems, is much simpler.
Pregnancy.
And before you worry (just like the husband did), I’m not. My back pain is apparently caused by hormonal changes that occur around six months after giving birth; it’s my body’s way of getting back to normal. The good news is that it probably won’t get any worse. The bad news is that I’m going to have to just tough it out.
At least I know if I carry my rucksack I won’t be laid out flat the next day.

Ouch. I pulled my back out a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely exruciating. Rest it, heat it, ice it and feel better soon.

Avoid lifting small children too. See, every problem we have can be blamed on either the kids or the husband.
Oh you poor thing, back pain is the pits.
I’ve had on / off back trouble since I was 18 and its not fun

The one thing I was always proud of was how strong my back was. Guess I don’t have that claim any more.
You’ll think I’m batshit insane but you know what really helps? Tummy control pants. Nothing as harsh as Spanx, yoru run-of-the-mill M&S support pants are perfect because they’ll support your abdominal muscles and thus alleviate some of the pain. I’m talking through experience here!

You may be batshit insane (lol) but you’re probably right. It’s all about the support. The fact that your stomach shrinks at the same time is of no consequence.
I’d tell what helps but you’d just ignore me!

I’ve found that’s best…
