My house has been taken over! By bugs! Worse still, TB considers them to be his ‘pets’. But before you start unfollowing on the basis that I never clean my house hear me out: we’ve been taken over by Hexbugs.
Hexbugs Nano to be precise.
Now if you’re like me you’ll be asking what on earth a Hexbug is? We’ll the first thing you need to know is that they’re set to be one of this Christmas’ biggest crazes. Once you’ve got that one your knowledgeable child will go on to tell you that they’re tiny, collectible micro robotic creatures that use the physics of vibration to propel themselves. Well ok, your child won’t, but that’ll be what they’re trying to say when they tell you that Hexbugs are cool little bugs that move around on their own and jump over things and flip over. Even I have to admit they’re pretty neat.
There may also be educational value in Hexbugs; each Hexbug Nano comes with a serial number that can be entered on the Hexbugs website. Once at least one Hexbug is registered to a user there are games to be played, points to be earned and even more fun to be had.
TB was almost instantly hooked by his Hexbugs. He’s made an arena for them to play in, appropriated my biggest Tupperware and pashmina to make a bed for them, they travel in their own little test tubes and go almost everywhere with him. To be honest, I’m surprised he hasn’t started to try and feed the food in the fridge to them. It’s only a matter of time.

I want to find these tiny little jitterbugs that get everywhere annoying but try as I might, I can only think of them as endearingly cute. My only reservation is the price: £8.99 each or a 5-pack complete set for £39.99. It’s a lot for a kids’ collectible but they are clever and will be loved. So much so that TB’s asked for some of the accessories for Christmas!

I adore them, am very tempted to buy a set so that I can keep one for myself
