A few weeks back I visited ProBeauty and bought more than a few polishes. Despite Lucy’s persuasion I’ve been in denial and avoiding writing an haul post. In the end I decided I would swatch everything I bought instead. That way I’m sure there’s some benefit in posting all these polishes.
I’m starting off with the Gelish Cinderella collection. Having seen Chickettes’ swatches of the colours I knew I wanted Party at the Palace and If the Slipper Fits. I was also quite taken by Live Like There’s No Midnight but figured that as I already own Holiday Party Blues (which is pretty much the glittery equivalent) and that doesn’t get used much it probably wasn’t worth purchasing.
When I got to the stand I looked at the other colours and wasn’t really inspired to buy too many of the older ones. When I looked at the whole Cinderella collection I realised that, although I probably wouldn’t wear the pink and corals myself, they would really fill a hole in my collection for clients. So I bought the lot!
In terms of the formula I feared that Ella of a Girl, My Carriage Awaits and Watch Your Step, Sister! would be like some of the previous years’ pastels. Colours such as My One Blue love were thick and difficult to apply (it’s a pain to have to warm the colours to get them to apply properly) but while these were thick they were much easier to work with. I found the blues (especially The Slipper Fits) to be quite sheer and I was tempted to overload on the coats to avoid the dreaded VNL. It may be something that disappears a bit as I learn how to work with them.
I’ve always avoided swatching gel polish in the past because of the hassle of soaking off every one afterwards. My skin has issues with acetone which leaves it incredibly dry, even with the barest stripe of a cleanup brush. Hannah at The Dalai Lama’s Nails mentioned that she used a peel off base and I figured I’d give it a go. Unfortunately it doesn’t always give the smoothest base but peeling off all that polish is incredibly satisfying! I haven’t used top coat in these pics so the shine is somewhere between glossy and matte.
I also bought a bottle of Big City Siren. Unfortunately it met with a messy end when someone kindly knocked my bags out of my hand. I guess it could’ve been a hell of a lot worse! The bottle is currently wrapped in a million layers of tissue paper, plastic and gift bags (I was very thankful for the darkened car park) as there was probably about half let. It’ll wait there until I can empty a bottle of Top It Off or snag a half empty bottle from a sale group.
