When the Digit-al Dozen decided we were going to spend a week looking at our nail heroes I thought that was a pretty good idea. Until I really thought about it and who my heroes actually are. You see I couldn’t think of a single one. I could think of plenty of bloggers and nail technicians whose work I appreciated but I couldn’t see any of them as heroes. For a start, unless someone can fix the psoriasis spots on my nails which are causing them to lift (or some other nail-related miracle), they couldn’t be considered a hero in my mind. Heroes fix things, save things; they run into burning buildings to rescue your cat, not create nails. Secondly, and probably more to the heart of the matter, I think it’s difficult to work out who your heroes are when you don’t know who you are in the first place. I have labels: I’m a mother, a daughter, a sister, I like nails, I blog, I have CFS. None of those things are me. I have no idea who I would be if those things weren’t there. Would I be anything at all? And perhaps that’s the real key as to why I can’t find myself a hero.
And so this week is more about nail people I think do some pretty cool stuff.
First up we have Haus of Lacquer. Why? Gorgeous nail shapes (the coffins and pointed almonds are always perfect), excellent hand painted designs (oh! the chains!) and plenty of bling.
These Wizard of Oz nails aren’t your usual Haus of Lacquer mani but the hand painting still shows the same perfection I’ve come to expect from Steph. And they’re just so freaking cool!
I will admit that it took me ages to work out what the green nail was. I just couldn’t figure it out. Then it clicked: the Emerald City. I added some sheer white polish to my city to try and emulate the sheen on the city on the original movie poster but I don’t think it worked. It just looks a little strange.
