I have a problem with chocolate. Like I can’t stop eating it. In fact the problem was so bad that I had to give chocolate up for lent. And boy did I want to each that stuff again. I dreamt about the end of lent when I could finally tuck in to another bar. When Fuel My Blog said Chocolate and Love were looking for reviewers I jumped at the chance.
And then the chocolate arrived and I just didn’t fancy trying it. Yes, that’s right. I didn’t feel like chocolate. Clearly something was seriously wrong.
A week later I decided I had to bite the bullet and do the review. I was pleasantly surprised.
We started with the Nirvanabar. The husband said first off that he didn’t like it. Once he thought about it though, he decided that actually he did. At 55% cocoa I felt that it was a lighter alternative to other dark chocolates that made it a good choice when you wanted something that wasn’t quite a strong as the average 70%.
The Coffee Affair was the bar that had me most excited. I’m a coffee addict after all. You could only smell a hint of coffee to it but the taste was definitely there. And it wasn’t a tacky instant coffee taste either. This was the good stuff. The husband considered it ‘awesome!’ so it has both the Glowstars and Urbanvox seal of approval.
The Conscious Chocolate Healthy Heart Bar is definitely a tempting concept. It’s a handmade raw bar that is free from pesticides, dairy, gluten, soya and refined sugars. It’s a soft, almost-truffle like bar that melts on your tongue. Although it’s tipped at 60% cocoa it’s deliciously creamy and doesn’t suffer from the strong aftertaste that other 60% bars do. The bar contains cacao butter and coconut butter which smell gorgeous and taste divine. This was was a real treat.
Orange Mantra contains 65% cocoa and natural orange oil. Whilst it was a good taste, I couldn’t help but feel the orange was overpowered by the darkness of the chocolate.
Filthy Rich lives up to its name. At 71% cocoa we found it too dark and bitter for our liking, although you couldn’t fault it for taste. It’s just not our thing.
Chocolate and Love also run a monthly chocolate club and sell personalised chocolate items.
The chocolate is definitely of high quality but at £2.90 for Chocolate and Love’s own brand 100g bars and £2.88 for the 40g Conscious Chocolate bar I couldn’t help but feel it was a bit too expensive to pay, especially when you consider the £3.50 delivery charge.

I know the agony of not wanting to eat chocolate due to Lent and/or New Year Resolutions. Just done a post about my addiction as well! Could I link you?

I think it’s great the way I couldn’t wait for it the moment lent ended, but then the moment I could eat the stuff I didn’t want it.

If only they did it in sainsburys for £1 a bar – I’d be tempted to buy quite a few bars on a regular basis.
