“You have got to be kidding me?”
The guys stared at me, to her and then back to me again.
“You said you were sick of being the only girl on the team” Train teased like this was a laughing matter. “We got you another girl.”
“Yeah. Right. I didn’t mean a child though.” I pushed past them and she lifted her head and stared at me defiantly, her young eyes challenging me to attack. “She’s barely hit puberty. We’ll tear her apart in training; we certainly can’t take her out in the field.”
The beasts within me weren’t so sure though. They were scenting her, trying to match her to something familiar. There was something different about her, something that none of them could pin down. Before I could hold any of them back one of the dogs was pushing me forward, sniffing close into her. Then I licked her. Right across the cheek.
Oh god! Could this be any worse? First the guys bring a baby onto the team and now the beasts were getting a little too friendly with her. I was waiting for one of the guys to make a comment about girl on girl action but they remained unusually silent, the scent of their nervousness hanging in the air.
Then realisation dawned on me; I knew what was different about her. No wonder none of the beasts could be sure; we’d probably never seen anything quite like her. I stepped back to get a better look at her. Her skin glistened but it wasn’t cosmetic, I’d have smelled it. She was tiny yet clearly strong and there was something mystical about her, like she carried the summer breeze around her. There was sunshine in her blood.
“There are fairies?” I laughed, amazed.
She hissed baring razor sharp teeth, thin but deadly spindles.
“I wouldn’t Don” Hunter warned, putting himself between me and the girl. “Kira here is part fae. Trust me when I say they’re vicious and deadly.”
“Vicious and deadly?” I half laughed. “Well we might as well give her a shot.”
Did you take “sunshine in her blood” and create something amazing or wonderful? Link up; you never know, you might find a new blog to read.
Each Friday I’m challenging myself with a writing prompt and the following Friday I’ll come back and show you what I’ve done. All comments and constructive criticisms will be gratefully received. You’re invited to play along too because it’s more fun when we do these things together. Include the prompt in astory or use it as inspiration – the choice is yours. You can grab the code for the badge and leave your link in the linky.
Come back next Friday to see how I got on, share your story and find out what I’ll be writing about the week after.
And my next prompt is
be still
See you then.

Well you know I want to read more of your story. I loved the idea of the fae and the sunshine in the blood. It is a brilliant idea. In some ways we were on the same wavelength. This was so much fun. Thanks for starting it!
