Find on
Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
Fireworks, betrayal and rot.
We have no desire,
To put out the fire,
She'll never escape from our plot.
Ashes Boys, Ashes Boys, she's locked in our sight,
And we'll tear down her King once we're done with this night.
All that remains will be blood and bone,
Grimy old London, we'll continue to own.
By The Ashes Boys she'll be caught dressed in red,
With malicious intent, a high price on her head.
Ashes Boys, Ashes Boys, let the flames rise,
Ashes Boys, Ashes Boys,
It's time for her demise.
*This is a SHORT bonfire night novella. It DOES end on a cliffhanger. This is a very DARK bully gang why choose romance, meaning it contains dark content that may be unsuitable for some, please see authors note in front of book.
Torment Me - My Review
There’s nothing like a blurb that intrigues you get tells you nothing about the book you’re going to read. Torment Me is one of those but it’s also a K L Taylor-Lane so I opened it knowing I was going to enjoy it.
Maybe “enjoy” wasn’t the right choice of word. There’s a pervading darkness to this book that could make other dark novels squirm. The trigger warnings aren’t there because The themes are merely brushed upon; one particular one is so much a part of the story that you can feel yourself falling back in your own moment. The story we’re embarking on is set against the backdrop of Ember’s trauma and emotional pain; it consumes her being and motivates her every reaction.
As the story unfolds Taylor-Lane hints at a nightmarish event which Ember was subjected to. Subtle phrasing leaves the reader wondering if the mysterious Ashes Boys are related to that point in Ember’s life and whether there’s more at play than her childhood connection to Blaze.
If you’re a fan of K L Taylor-Lane’s previous novels, especially the Blackwell Brothers series, you’ll love the modern gothic writing style and the way she dredges up the character’s depth of emotions. It’s a short story but Torment Me is one that will captivate you and leave you desperate to read more.
