My son is a good man.
I know what you think about him, because I know what he's done, but you have to understand that it's not his fault.
He was something of a misanthrope in his youth and that can be attributed to his father.
Please understand that I will take the blame for my part in wrecking his soul, but it's so hard to resist a boy so sweet.
He's always loved me most of all and I took advantage of that.
Until you feel what I felt in his arms don't judge me too harshly.
Don't hate my son for the sins of his mother.
I betrayed his trust.
I made him into the man he's become.
God help me.
This is my confession.
Sparks - My Review
If you’ve already read this far in Yolanda Olson’s Inferno series, you’ll know that Luke Greene and his family are a little unconventional. If you’ve not taken the plunge yet, Sparks is a quick (okay, that’s an understatement) read that will show you how Luke ended up the way he is.
It’s a bit of a shock that Mama Greene was a nun before she fell pregnant with Luke. The story tells her fall from grace, then jumps forward to see Luke aged 15. There’s something not quite right with Taylee Greene, but then there’s something not quite right with her son as well. In this book, we watch as Luke meets his father for the first time and his reaction along with his mother’s.
You can be defined by this, or you can let it destroy you.
Luke and Taylee have a strange dynamic and in the book’s 54 pages, manage to explore unconditional love, parental responsibility, and just what happens when a person is pushed too far one too many times. All of this is done with the classic Yolanda twist that we all know and love.
Sparks may be the shortest book I’ve read since I stopped with picture books but it didn’t need a single word added to it. It’s perfectly twisted just as it is.
