Pretty Little Tease - My Review
While still a serial killer romance Pretty Little Tease is a shift from AJ Merlin’s previous books. Despite the FMC, Blair, naming her cam-watching alter-ego finalistgirl she’s nowhere near as much of a final girl as most of Merlin’s other FMCs. Although there’s killing in the backdrop of the story and the two MMCs are killers it takes a while for this to become apparent and it doesn’t feel like it’s as much of a focus as in other books.
The story starts with Blair, intrigued by a guy she’s seen streaming on a cam site, setting up her own stream. It doesn’t take long for money and gifts to start coming in. Simultaneously she’s picked up a new class at college and is getting to know classmate Oliver while dodging their acerbic photography professor, Professor Soloman. But her roommate and best friend really dislikes Oliver, a student is found dead, and it seems like someone may be following her. Could it all be related to Blair’s cam stream? Nobody knows who she is. Right?
I really enjoyed the way the various storylines twisted together. Although some elements were a little predictable, they worked well and I wouldn’t have changed them. The two MMCs balance either other perfectly but at the same time were really distinctive characters that could have held a story in their own right. I liked the way they brought Blair into their existing dynamic while each attracting her separately.
Pretty Little Tease could be a standalone and definitely doesn’t need the promise of a second book but it also drops hints for potential storylines that we might read in the duet’s conclusion. I’m curious to see where Merlin takes the story and can’t wait to read more of these characters.
