They say they saved my life, even though I never saw them do it.
Cyril, Isaac, Ashe, Ezra, and Arlo call themselves the Lost Boys, and they’re just one branch of a ‘family’ that rules everything in the city I grew up in. They’re the bad guys, in every sense of the word, and they don’t care who knows it.
Worse? They want to show me all of their sharp, bloody edges
After a vacation gone wrong, the Lost Boys tell me that they’re the only reason I made it out alive. That even though I didn’t know it at the time, they saved me. It doesn’t matter that I didn’t see them do it. It doesn’t matter that I doubt these monsters are capable of anything other than taking a life.
Because their word is law, and now that they’ve saved me?
They own me.
But I’m not a pushover, and I don’t need a knife to prove to them I won’t be made theirs so easily.
Owned By The Lost Boys is a why choose, dark romance stand-alone that contains MM, MFM, and so much more. If you’re bothered by killing, blood, and kink, then this might not be the book for you.
Owned By The Lost Boys - My Review
I went into this book blind, without so much as reading the blurb. I was always going to read it, no matter what the blurb or reviews said. AJ Merlin is just one of those authors for me. So going in blind seemed like a fun idea.
If you’ve read any of AJ Merlin’s other dark romances, you’ll know she has a talent for writing sassy heroines who are a little broken, and that she loves a final girl. She definitely ticks the first box with Ari, but as a horror movie fanatic herself, the FMC is all to aware of what to do to avoid being that final girl. Except maybe when the lives of the boys she loves are on the line. But who doesn’t go a little crazy when they’re in love? We’re also treated to five dangerous (and sinfully hot) guys who are balls deep in the local organised crime scene, and maybe a little unhinged too. Oh, did I mention each of them is, in their own way, obsessed with Ari and determined to keep her?
As I expected, there are plenty of amusing moments scattered amidst the dark, the disturbing and downright scary. The book deals with subjects such as mental health issues with a kind of no nonsense approach that I really appreciate. Thank you, AJ, for making it something that just is, instead of making a huge deal over it or, worse still, misrepresenting so many common experiences. There’s also plenty of steam, much of it tinged with I really shouldn’t be enjoying this…. but what the hell, I want to and I’m going to. Combine Ari’s thoughts with those five kinky alpha males and you have some amazing scenes that you’re not going to forget in a hurry.
But, I couldn’t help but feel that Owned By The Lost Boys was rushed, and at 360 pages it really shouldn’t have been. Five love interests is a huge amount to juggle and I never felt like I got enough time with each of the boys, either together or separately. I wanted Merlin to dig deeper into their characters and how they interact with each other and Ari, I wanted more back story and I most definitely wanted more sexy times. My hope is that Merlin might listen to fans cries and come up with a sequel, because this really shouldn’t be the last of Wendy Darling, Peter Pan and the Lost Boys.
